2024’s most accurate mock drafter doesn’t have the Steelers taking one of the big-name quarterbacks in this year’s draft.
Charlie Campbell of Walter Football had the most accurate in three of the last seven years.
So, where does he has the quarterbacks going?
Campbell said he believes Cam Ward will be the only quarterback to go in the first round with Shedeur Sanders (Browns) and Jaxson Dart (Saints) going early in the second. He said his sources tell him the Saints have done ‘a ton of work’ on Dart and they could even move back in the first round to select Dart.
Campbell’s quarterback ratings:
1. Shedeur Sanders-Colorado-is he most accurate and a toughness factor
2. Cam Ward-Miami
3. Tyler Shough-Louisville-calls Shough the sleeper of the QBs, saying if he would have stayed healthy, would be a first-round pick. A day 2 steal, big and good arm with accuracy. Campbell had people tell him Shough is the smartest QB by far.
4. Jaxson Dart-Ole Miss-said he has a good skillset and a quality arm. He is concerned with development and transition to NFL because of Lane Kiffin’s system. Compared Dart to Matt Corral and believes he needs more time behind a good veteran QB, like Aaron Rodgers had behind Brett Favre.
5. Quinn Ewers-Texas
Campbell believes Alabama’s Jalen Milroe is a second or third round selection. There are a number of teams that will consider him, only with the thought that he might take a couple of years to be NFL ready because of passing issues. He grades Milroe as a career back-up.
The Walter Football veteran said buckle up around 9:30 on Thursday.
“It’s really going to be fascinating this draft because I’m not optimistic there will be a lot of trades in the top 10, but then once it gets to mid-to-late in the first round, I think you will get some movement happening that really sets things off,” Campbell told Joe Starkey and Bob Pompeani.
As for the Steelers first-round pick, Campbell has the Steelers taking a defensive lineman.
