With Will Howard out, Steelers bring in new quarterback

With Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard dealing with a fractured bone in his throwing hand, the Steelers have added signed a new QB.

They’ve also signed a new guard.

The signings of quarterback Logan Woodside and veteran guard/tackle Andrus Peat were announced by Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin Thursday afternoon.

Woodside, taken in the 7th-round of the 2018 Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, has appeared in 13 games (starting 0) in the NFL

11 of those game in Tennessee in 2020 and 2021. He had a total of 4 yards over 13 attempts.

He had one attempt for six yards over two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

“He is no stranger to the NFL. He has a past relationship with Arthur Smith,” said Tomlin. “Given the circumstances with Will Howard, we thought that was appropriate. He will be a quick study. We will work hard over the next 48 hours and certainly he will have game availability, whether or not he plays, remains to be seen but that is the intention.”

Peat, the 13th overall pick in the 2015 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, has started 103 games during his 10-year career with the Saints and the Raiders.

He is also a three-time Pro Bowler.

“He is a versatile veteran, he has played both guard and tackle,” said Tomlin. “We’ve absorbed some attrition in those spaces. A grizzly veteran with multi-positional experience is an asset.”

To make room on the roster, the Steelers waived long snapper Tucker Addington and guard Nick Broeker.
