PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A West Virginia closer part of the Pirates selections rounds two through 10 with the latter seven rounds happening on Monday. Here is what we know about the 10 newest Buccos.

2nd round-Mitch Jebb-SS-Michigan State
·     Ranked 3rd in the Big 10 with a .337 batting average with 15 doubles and seven triples as a left-handed hitter who throws right.
·     Ranked 44th best prospect by MLB Pipeline, stands 6’1”, 185 pounds
·     Ranked 3rd of all prospects in the 2022 Cap Cod League

2nd round Comp B-Zander Mueth-RHP-HS/Belleville, IL
·     Ole Miss commit is 6’6”, 195 pounds with a fastball that currently tops out at 97 mph
·     Perfect Game ranks Mueth as the 27th overall prospect and sixth best right-handed pitcher

3rd round-Garret Forrester-3B-Oregon State
·     Right-handed hitter started as a freshman and was All-Pac 12 First Team
·     All Baton Rouge Regional All-Tournament Team & hit .341 w 12 2B & 10 HR for season
·     Pac-12 Tournament MVP in 2022 hitting .332 with 11 2B & 9 HR for season
·     MLB.com says the 6’, 204 pounder has an upside of being a plus hitter with average or better power
·     Brother plays for Beavers & wants to be a farmer after his playing career

4th round-Carlson Reed-RHP-West Virginia
·     At 6’4”, 200 pounds, Reed has a plus changeup along with good fastball (averaged 95 mph) and slider. MLB.com says he needs to work on his control
·     First Team All-Big 12 as the Mountaineers closer, 4 saves in conference play with a 1.76 ERA, overall 2-1, 2.61 ERA, seven saves, 60 strikeouts in 38 innings

5th round-Patrick Reilly-RHP-Vanderbilt
·     The four-year junior topped out at 98 mph going 5-4 with a 5.77 ERA and 65 strikeouts to 30 walks in 48.1 innings
·     Vandy coach said ‘if you could sculpt out a pitcher’s physique, you would start here’. Said he has a high care level for everything & a commitment to improve
·     New Jersey native, dad played football at Villanova

6th round-Hunter Furtado-LHP-Alabama
·     6’4”, 210 pounds Furtado started at Wake Forest before transferring to Alabama
·     Can reach 98 MPH, but struggles at times with command. His out pitch is a slider that he sometimes struggles to control according to MLB.com
·     36 innings (2 starts), 1-1, 4.75 ERA, 38 strikeouts, 17 walks

7th round-Jaden Woods-LHP-Georgia
·     6’2”, 205 pounds dealt with biceps tendinitis this season
·     Went 3-3 with a 5.77 ERA in 10 starts in 2023 with 62 strikeouts to 25 walks in 48.1 innings
·     2022—54.1 innings. 1-1, 4.64 ERA, 25 appearances (1 start), 80 strikeouts, 33 walks
·     2021—53 innings, 4-1, 4.58 ERA in 17 appearances (4 starts), .179 batting average against

8th round-Austin Strickland-RHP-Kentucky
·     6’2”, 210 pound junior went 4-2 with a 5.04 ERA in 20 appearances (3 starts), 55.1 innings, 58 strikeouts to 20 walks in 2023
·     Overall in college 7-7, 5.28 ERA, 102.1 innings, 124 strikeouts, 42 walks
·     Had a 1.78 ERA in 9 of 10 appearances in the Cape Cod League in 2022

9th round-Danny Carrion-RHP-University of California-Davis
·     6’3”, 205 pounds, 3-3 in 19 relief appearances in 2023 with a 2.45 ERA. IN 29.1 innings struck out 34 and walked 10, .231 batting average against
·     In 3 years of college, 61 innings, never gave up a home run

10th round-Landon Tomkins-RHP-Louisiana Tech
·     6’3”, 200 pounds, made a team-high 30 appearances (4th most in program history)
·     6-2, 3.52 ERA, 76.2 innings, 75 strikeouts, 34 walks-led team in IP, K, ERA, wins in 2023
