You might be surprised how good Russell Wilson was in 2023

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – So how much has Russell Wilson fallen off since he left Seattle? A look at the numbers for the 36-year-old quarterback.

A Super Bowl champ with the Seahawks, Wilson was top four in the voting three times for NFL Offensive Player of the Year and finished third as NFL Rookie of the Year in 2012. He was voted to the Pro Bowl every season in Seattle but 2016, when he threw for the most yards in his career, 4,219.

What seems to have worked against Wilson with the Broncos is as much the contract he signed, than the production. Wilson joined Denver on a five-year, $242 million contract with expectations he would be the quarterback to do what Peyton Manning did and once again get the Broncos to a championship. They didn't.

In 30 starts, Wilson won 11 games, not entirely all on him, there was a lot going on with Denver and the coaching staff, but he is the QB. 2022 was a struggle, four wins, only 16 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a career-low 84.4 quarterback rating. NFL.com ranked Wilson 30th among QBs that year-behind Mac Jones, Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton and Kenny Pickett, who was 25th by comparison.

Big comeback

Last season though, Wilson threw 26 touchdowns to only eight interceptions with a 66.4 completion percentage, third best of his career. The quarterback rating shot up to 98, which was SEVENTH in the league. The adjusted completion percentage, as to not punish him for dropped passes, was second only to Patrick Mahomes in the entire league.
