How to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with your kids

Monday, January 18, marks the 26th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The federal holiday was created as a day of service for us to get out and do something to better our community in honor of Dr. King's life and legacy. So what can you do with your kids?

Make it day of service! Even though we can't get together in large events you can still find ways to volunteer safely. Here's a list of things you can do to serve around San Diego.

Celebrate virtually. Hop online with your kids and watch the virtual MLK Jr. Day Parade in D.C. If your kids are into Minecraft, they've created Minecraft March on Washington: Virtual Exploration. It's an entire world dedicated to honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Talk to your kids about Dr. King's life and legacy- what he stood for, how he helped the Civil Rights movement in the 60s, and how his work can relate to what is happening now. Now more than ever we need to talk to our kids about inclusivity and diversity. Do you want to have that conversation, but don't know where to start? PBS SoCal is a great resource.

We hope you have a great day of service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. !
