Overnight closures are coming to U.S. Highway 101, impacting residents in the Agoura Hills area.
Beginning 11:59 p.m. on April 15, the highway will shut down Liberty Canyon Rd. and Chesebro Rd., according to the California Department of Transportation. The closures will take place Monday through Friday over six to eight weeks.
“All lanes will be closed in only one direction each night. Lanes in the opposite direction will stay open for traffic,” according to the department.
The department noted that the roads will reopen at 5 a.m. the next morning on weekdays, and the lanes could open later on Saturdays.
It’s part of the construction of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, a bridge that will stretch over the 101 Freeway so wildlife can cross over safely. During the closures, crews will place girders above the freeway lanes.
CalTrans Engineer Sam Ta-Toon-Jian provided a detour route for drivers trying to stay away from the closure.
“South on 101 to north on 23 to east on 118 to south on 405 back to the 101 junction,” he said. “If folks feel it's necessary or unreasonably inconvenient to use the freeway detour, they can get off at Chesebro, take a right turn left on Agoura road, turn left on Liberty Canyon, and get right back on the freeway in less than two miles.”
The bridge is expected to be completed in 2025.
