Three people are dead and multiple others were injured on Thursday after a driver crashed into a 99 Ranch Market in Westwood.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the store at 1350 S Westwood Blvd. at 12:11 p.m.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene while seven were taken to a nearby hospital. Officers with the LAPD said a bicyclist was hit prior to the crash, but that they were released.
LAFD spokesperson Lindsey Lance said the driver went into the front windows of the store’s bakery area.
Police say the driver struck a bicyclist, swerved the car, went throught the door of the store and trapped people underneath.
Anthony Romero, a Lyft driver, told KNX News he saw the crash before picking up a passenger in the area.
"It was scary. I looped back around...and I made a right turn and then into an alleyway, and by the time I got back to the corner, just a bunch of pedestrians were running over there to help out and to find out what was going on," he said. "I could see that it was big trouble because people were like, you know, covering their faces or just turning around real fast as if they saw something horrible inside there."
Officers with the LAPD said the driver was an elderly woman and driving a Toyota Prius.
Westwood Blvd. is shut down at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
