The SUV was exiting the off-ramp onto Valley Boulevard when the driver lost control and careened into a fence and brick wall, police told CBS Los Angeles.

The men, identified by authorities as 20-year-old David Ayala and 25-year-old Joel Frias, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to City News Service. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone else was in the vehicle.

Police said the SUV was likely speeding at the time of the crash.

“Definitely a high speed crash, looking at just the damage to the vehicle into a block wall, speed was definitely a factor,” CHP Sgt. Adam Taylor told CBS L.A.
