An individual has been detained on suspicion of starting a brush fire that resulted in the scorching of a portion of Angeles National Forest Monday morning, according to officials.
U.S. National Forest Service firefighters were dispatched to the blaze just north of Azusa, near East Fork Road, a at 7:55 a.m. They were later reinforced by L.A. County firefighters. As of Monday afternoon, the fire was contained.
Though no structures were burnt and no injuries have been reported, the fire reportedly burnt through about five acres of protected woodland.
California Highway Patrol has reported that the suspect arrested on suspicion of involvement in starting the fire was arrested just after 9 a.m. on Monday. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released by authorities.
Angeles National Forest has been closed to the public from Sept. 1 through Sept. 17.
The fire was knocked down by 10:15 a.m. An investigation is ongoing. This story will be updated with additional information as it is received.
