13 hospitalized following collision on 10 Freeway

BANNING, Calif. (KNX) – Thirteen people were hospitalized following a collision on the 10 Freeway in Banning on Friday.

The Riverside County Fire Department said the collision was reported at 11 a.m. on the eastbound lanes near Malki Road.

According to City News Service, the bus was traveling 60 to 65 miles per hour when the front tire blew out. The bus then hit a Mitsubishi.

It was initially reported that 20 people were injured; but Riverside County fire officials said at 1:17 p.m. that 12 people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries which ranged from minor moderate.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Montez confirmed to the Associated Press that it was 13 people that was hospitalized and only one person had a major injury.

Montez also said two of the people who were injured were in the car that was hit by the bus.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.
