The bear that was living underneath an Altadena home has been evicted.

Ken Johnson told KNX News’ Karen Adams BEAR League, a nonprofit based in the Lake Tahoe area, offered to help him remove the bear from his home. He said that within an hour of them showing up at, the bear was gone.

“They did the same thing that the fish and wildlife people did. They used paintball guns, the same ones that humans use in recreational play in paintball fields and stuff, and they just scared him out,” Johnson explained.

Although he’s relieved, Johnson said he needs to look at the damage the bear has caused.

Since the bear has been living at his home for a month and a half, there was a higher chance it would come back. As a precautionary measure, an electric mat has been placed in front of the crawl space entrance.

“Last night, I suddenly noticed that all my cameras were activated, and I looked, and there he is coming up the driveway and by the crawl hole and to the backyard, looked around, looked at me through the window, and then went back down the side of the house and tried to get back under, and he stepped on that pad,” Johnson said.

The bear took off running after that. The hope is that the mat will help keep it away.
