Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) recently defended President Joe Biden’s age in a sit-down interview, saying that there shouldn’t be an age cap for presidential candidates.

Sanders was asked about whether or not the age of President Biden and former President Donald Trump was a concern to him while speaking with LADBible, as many begin to worry about the cognitive abilities of both men.

Sanders said he wasn’t concerned about Biden, and when asked if he thought there should be an age cap for presidential candidates, he said there shouldn’t be.

“Once you’re into an age cap… you can develop a lot of other criteria to determine who should be eligible to run or not. Bottom line is you should be able to vote whoever you want, and if age is a concern or age of this particular candidate is a concern, don’t vote for him or her,” Sanders said.

He went on to say that voters need to look at everything when it comes to candidates, being able to look past singular issues and weigh them against the benefit of the person.

“I think what we have got to do as voters is look at the totality of a candidate,” Sanders said.

When talking about Biden’s three years in office, Sanders said he has a “pretty good record, not the world’s greatest record.”

“We’ve had a lot of division… It’s hard to get things done, but people should judge him by his record and his age as part of a whole process,” Sanders said.

Sanders went on to say that he can see why people are unhappy with both leading candidates, saying there are “a lot of reasons for that, and it’s not just age.”

“The truth is that the government is not responding to the pain of the American people,” Sanders said.
