While going for a late-night swim in Puerto Vallarta, it didn’t take long for Kiana Hummel to encounter trouble… in the form of a 12-foot crocodile.
The vacationing California 18-year-old said the predator bit down on her right leg and pulled her beneath the water’s surface. She got the croc to release her after multiple punches, but it came back for more. This time it sunk its teeth into her left leg and pulled her back under.
"I didn't think I was getting out that second time," Hummel said. "That was just really bad."
Hummel survived, but her legs were severely injured and, at least currently, she was left unable to walk. Doctors hope that physical therapy and a lengthy recovery could restore her mobility, according to her mother Ariana Martinez.
