Fans are learning the truth on how Chuck Norris really felt about Jared Padalecki playing his iconic role in the reboot of the classic television series “Walker, Texas Ranger.”
In the original CBS series, which ran for eight seasons in the 1990s, Norris played Cordell Walker, a crime-fighting, justice-seeking ranger.
Since the CW announced a reboot of the program, many fans were shocked to learn that the 80-year-old martial artist, actor, and film producer would not appear in a show considered so synonymous with his legacy.
The update, entitled "Walker," features “Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki in the titular role.
When asked if he had Norris’ blessing to take over the role, Padalecki told Good Morning America, “he did have to give his blessing. He helped create the original version, and so he still co-owns it,” the 38-year-old actor said.
“He didn't have any problem with it, thank goodness, because I don't want to mess with Chuck Norris. But I've seen all the GIFs and memes and stuff. So, he did have to give his blessing… It's a very, very different show, and our Walker, Texas Ranger is a very different Walker than his Walker, but he did give his blessing,” Padalecki added.
Padalecki, who is also an executive producer on the project, spoke about some of the new changes made to the classic series.
The role focuses less on crime fighting, as unlike Norris, Padalecki is not a renowned martial artist.
The show is also careful in the ways they depict the relationship between law enforcement and criminals, given the current political environment.
Padalecki stars in the show alongside his wife, Genevieve Padalecki, Mitch Pileggi, and Lindsey Morgan.
"Walker" airs Thursdays at 8pm ET on The CW.
