Dodger Stadium reopened for COVID-19 testing for the first time in months on Monday. The site, run by healthcare startup Curative, offers nasal PCR drive-through testing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week.

"The Curative testing site is relaunching due to increase demand in testing coupled with an increase in positivity across the state of California," company spokesperson Pasquale Gianni said.

The stadium has the capacity to provide roughly 500 tests per day, according to Curative, which says it's the largest testing site in the region.

Increase in demand for COVID-19 tests might be attributable to new city and county mandates requiring unvaccinated residents undergo testing to attend largescale events, as well as testing protocols for schools and workplaces.

The stadium site reopned amid a "possible uptick in tranmission" of COVID-19, according to L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.

In some parts of Calfiornia, COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are beginning to rise, reflective of last year's winter surge which overwhelmed area hospitals.
