WASHINGTON (KNX) – A fox that bit numerous people, including a congressman, on Capitol Hill was euthanized Wednesday, just one day after it was captured.

D.C. Health told ABC 10 the female fox was “humanely euthanized” and had tested positive for rabies.

Capitol police said prior to the fox’s capture, it received “several reports of aggressive fox encounters.”

On Tuesday, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (D-Calif.) confirmed he was bitten by a fox.

“What does the fox say? Last night, I found out…,” He wrote. “Joking aside, animal bites are extremely serious. In the case of an encounter, please speak with a physician immediately… Happy to report that I am healthy and back at work serving the people of #CA07.”

Officials said no other foxes have been found in the Capitol Hill area; however, it’s possible there could still be more in the area.
