Three people had to be rescued after a historic craftsman home went up in flames in Pico-Union on Monday.

The fire was reported around 9 a.m. in the 1200 block of South Bonnie Brae St.

LAFD Captain Anthony Tubbs said the fire quickly spread to two other structures, forcing the rescues of three people from the second floor.

“They pulled ladders off of one of the engines and assisted those individuals out of the building,” he said. “Those individuals were pulled out, assessed by paramedics on scene, and they refused treatment and transport, and they denied any injuries.”

While battling the blaze, one firefighter sustained minor injuries, according to the LAFD.

The fire was knocked down around 10:40 a.m.

The home had been recently purchased by Rosio Geraldine and her husband. She told KNX News’ Karen Adams they've had a problem with a squatter and complained to the police.

“We've done everything, and nobody has done anything about it,” she said.

She said the home had already been burned in a previous fire before they bought it, and they had started construction when Monday’s fire happened. She also says at the time of the fire, there was no electricity running through the home

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
