"Fresh, new, very LA:" The 2023 sound of KNX News

You know the voices here at KNX News. You trust the people. That hasn't changed over the years, but the sound of KNX has evolved. You might have noticed another step in that evolution today.

HEAR SOME OF THE NEW SOUNDS:

For much of its history, KNX had a distinctive sonic logo: six notes that leave no doubt that you’re listening to KNX News. That melody is back, re-imagined for what KNX is in 2023: 97.1 FM, streaming on the Audacy app, podcasting, smart speakers, and more.

“Along with the media landscape, KNX News has evolved so much over the past few years,” said Alex Silverman, KNX’s Director of News & Programming. “These new sounds pay homage to our legacy of trust and credibility, while reflecting KNX’s position as the pulse of Southern California on all platforms in 2023.”

“It’s exciting because I listen to the station, I’m based here in LA,” said Dave Bethell, co-owner of production firm TMStudios. “It was a delight to bring that iconic logo back.

The new musical identity, which includes more than a dozen different themes centered around those six notes, features the stylings of several Los Angeles-based musicians.

“It’s fresh, new, but very LA,” Bethell said. “Not just those typical things you’d expect to hear in news, the big horns, the cliches; let’s throw that out, let’s try something new, let’s really talk the language of the listeners.”

Whether you’ve been along for the ride for a while, or you’re brand new to KNX News, we hope you enjoy the new sounds, and make sure to listen on 97.1 FM, by asking your smart speaker to “play KNX News,” here on KNXNews.com, or anywhere on the free Audacy app.
