LOS ANGELES (KNX) — An ocean water use warning is in effect through Sunday, as rainfall in the Los Angeles region continues, the County said.

"Because of the recent rainfall, L.A. County Health Officer Muntu Davis is cautioning residents that bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas are likely to contaminate ocean waters at and around discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers," the County continued.

After rainfall, health officials often warn the public of swimming in ocean waters due to the contaminants. If the warnings are not taken seriously, the County said residents could become sick.

Recorded information on beach conditions is available 24 hours a day on the County's beach closure hotline: 1-800-525-5662. Information is also available here.
