Lyft, Uber, and DoorDash drivers in Los Angeles are set to strike on Valentine’s Day.

The strike will occur at 12 p.m. at the Los Angeles Uber Greenlight Hub on 2417 Beverly Boulevard.

“On Valentine's Day, February 14th, drivers are turning off their apps, and calling for a global day of driver action to tell the companies, passengers, and lawmakers that something needs to change!” Rideshare Drivers United said.

The organization represents more than 20,000 California drivers. Nicole Moore, the president of Rideshare Drivers United and part-time Lyft driver, told KNX News’ Jon Baird that 70 to 80% of the fares are going to the companies.

“You can have a formula, you can have an algorithm, you put something in and something comes out. Well, that's how they're paying us now,” she said. “We used to be paid by a rate card. That said, this is how much minimally you will make per mile and minimally how much you will make per minute. Those numbers have gone away.”

It comes as Justice For App Workers are set to strike at airports across the country, including New Jersey, Illinois, Florida, and Texas.

In a Feb. 6 press release, Lyft claimed “the median U.S. driver using their personal vehicle earned $30.68 (including tips and bonuses) gross per hour of engaged time — when they were on the way to pick up a passenger, or had a passenger in the car.”
