The City of L.A. is moving ahead with a $1.4 million road modification in Griffith Park that aims to enhance the park experience for drivers while at the same time improving safety for those biking or walking in the area.
As KNX News' Pete Demetriou reports, the work will focus on a 1.4-mile stretch of Crystal Springs Drive between Los Feliz Boulevard and Griffith Park Drive, a four-lane road that has been a hotspot for speeding for years.

4th District Councilmember Nithya Raman, a key advocate for the project, believes that the upcoming changes make sense in a number of ways.
"You'll see the one auto lane which is still going to allow cars to get through just as they do now," the councilmember said, "but there's going to be a little bit of a buffer space with bollards and rubberized curbs. That's really going to protect people who are on their bicycles and who are walking from fast-moving traffic."
Lane restrictions will also slow down travel through the area, affording people a better opportunity to see and enjoy the scenery.
Construction for the road modification is set to begin in mid-August, and thanks to grants from the State of California, the project will not cost L.A. taxpayers anything.
With all the bureaucratic construction hurdles removed, the project could be completed in two months at most.
