Another landslide damaged the Mariposa Trail Bridge in San Clemente, suspending rail services between the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Oceanside stations.
It happened Wednesday at 4:26 p.m.
“Metro staff and personnel were actually out at the San Clemente area performing tests and inspections and actually observed the debris falling from the hillside onto the right of way,” Scott Johnson, Metrolink spokesperson, told KNX News’s Jon Baird.
Johnson said that because of the debris, which is covering 100 feet of track, four southbound trains were not able to operate all the way to Oceanside.
“One train was able to operate to San Clemente while the other three stopped at our Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo station,” he said. “Those customers were provided Uber vouchers to reach their final destination.”
Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner service has also been suspended since it uses the track. Bus connections between Irivine and Oceanside are being offered at this time, according to City News Service.
Metrolink said that its track and engineering teams were working with OCTA and city officials in San Clemente to make sure the area is safe.
