A man was killed in eastern Spain over the weekend after he was gored by a bull at a bull-running festival, according to local authorities.
The man was not named, but officials did share that he was gored in his side by a bull called Cocinero during the event in Pobla de Farnals in Valencia region on Saturday, Reuters reported.
During the event, bulls are released into the streets of the city as runners try to get ahead of them.
According to a survey from AnimaNaturalis and CAS International, the tradition of running with the bulls takes place in more than 1,820 Spanish cities every year.
The man was reportedly taken to the hospital in critical condition but was eventually pronounced dead, officials in Spain shared on Sunday.
Another Spanish man was gored in the leg by the same bull, but he is in stable condition at the hospital, Reuters reported.
While the events are popular in the country, activists maintain the danger and cruelty of them, calling for them to be abolished.
