Police Tuesday are investigating a shooting that wounded a 42-year-old man west of the Vermont Vista neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 6:40 p.m. Monday to Vermont Avenue and 104th Street where they learned the victim was walking on 104th where the suspect approached him and fired several shots at him, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

The victim was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The suspect ran away from the scene in an unknown direction.
