LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A fatal car crash on the 101 Freeway in Studio City left one driver dead and a vehicle split in half Thursday morning.

The collision was reported at around 2 a.m. on the eastbound 101 transition to the southbound 101 near Tujunga Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities said the crash likely happened after one of the drivers attempted a quick lane change.

Emergency crews responding to the accident pronounced the driver dead on the scene. She was described as a 20-year-old woman.

CHP had not yet released information on the condition of the second driver as of Thursday morning.

Officials were forced to close transition lanes for several hours as they carried out an investigation.
