The first-ever L.A. Jazz Festival was supposed to kick off on Friday with dozens of free concerts over the next two weeks, but now it sounds like most of them won't actually happen.
According to the official festival website, performance dates appear to be limited to August 22 and 23. It also says “updated event info coming soon.”
LA City Councilmember Traci Park told KNX News’ Jon Baird she believes the promoters ran into financial and logistical issues.
“I think that this is a great opportunity for us as a city to evaluate what more can we do to make sure that we can support headline and signature events around our city,” she said.
Leah Concialdi, a publicist who also works with some of the performers and who was supposed to perform herself, told Baird people are upset.
“So there's just lots of artists in the dark, and now you see people posting on social media, both music fans who are expecting to attend events,” she said.
Music agent Maurice Montoya, who represents some of the disappointed talent, isn’t sure whether they’ll see any of that money.
“As it stands now, we've not received confirmation from the festival that they're going to make the artist whole,” he said.
