A mountain lion sighting in a Santa Monica backyard prompted police response on Friday.
The big cat was spotted in the backyard of a home near 14th St. around 10 a.m. It's described as about 6 to 7 feet long.
KNX News' Pete Demetriou reported that the mountain lion ran off after being shot with a tranquilizer dart.
Police say until they give the all-clear, it's best that residents stay indoors and keep pets inside.
Anyone who sees the animal is urged to get to a safe place and call 911.
