Across California, there are some animals in shelters because their owners are accused of some type of neglect, and the court cases that the animals are associated with are going nowhere in court. As a result, the animals can't be adopted.
Assemblymember Matt Haney of San Francisco wants that to change.
He proposed a law that would allow the animals to be adopted if the court cases are going nowhere.
“No vulnerable animal, especially one that has been abused, should be kept in limbo simply because of this bureaucratic flaw in our law,” he told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener. “This bill would allow for these animals to be adopted out if a defendant doesn't show up in court for 30 days.”
The bill, AB 2344, has been moved to the California State Senate.
