SANTA MONICA, LOS ANGELES (KNX) – Registered nurses held an informational picket outside Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica Monday after they said administration refuses to address chronic staff shortages.
The shortage, according to California Nurses Association/National Nurses United, “jeopardizes patient safety.”

The organization said on July 13, nurses met with administration, including Saint John’s chief nursing officer Giancarlo Lyle-Edrosolo to address the staffing issue; however, they said he told them he would get back to the nurses “in three to four weeks.”
“We are sending a message to Providence that we are at the end of our tolerance of the poor staffing in this hospital,” Elizabeth Baker Wade, a nurse whose been at the hospital for 24 years, told KNX News.
Wade, who also serves a union representative for the nurses and negotiatiates their contracts, went on to say she believes the nurses are not compensated fairly, and leave not too long after starting.
“Even our nurses that are new graduates, they leave within a year,” she explained.
KNX News did reach out to the hospital for comment. We are still waiting to hear back.
