An Orange County police officer remains in critical but stable condition Monday morning after being shot in the chest in front of the police station.
La Habra police told KNX the unidentified officer was talking at the hospital, but he will have a long road to recovery.
We’re a smaller department, and these things don’t happen too often,” said Lt. James Tigner.
“We’re proud of the response of our officers and our civilian staff as well. It was a traumatic event.”
Police said the officer was shot Friday night after a man, in a fit of road rage, followed a woman to the police station. Officials said the woman called 911, and police responded to the front entrance of the police station at 150 N. Euclid St.
The road rage incident was in the area of the 5 and 57 Freeways at around 7:04 p.m., according to a Saturday news release by the La Habra Police Department.
When police responded to the 911 call, the unidentified man shot an officer. Police shot back and killed the suspect. The coroner has not yet released his identity.
The O.C. District Attorney’s office said it will investigate the shooting.
