One person was killed Tuesday after they were struck by a big rig on the Hollywood (101) Freeway near Echo Park.

The collision was reported at 3:58 a.m. and California Highway Patrol officers responded to Alvarado Street and the southbound freeway where they found the victim, a CHP spokesman told City News Service.

The pedestrian, whose name, age or gender was not immediately known, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP closed all lanes of the southbound freeway for several hours while it conducted its investigation of the crash.
