A fundraiser supporting Los Angeles’ homeless community tested people’s fear of heights on Friday.
Participants rappelled 25 stories down the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City as part of the Union Rescue Mission’s Over the Edge fundraiser.
Mark Hood, CEO of Union Rescue Mission, told KNX News’ Karen Adams the goal is to raise $1.8 million.
“The people that it's helping are the people that are coming off the streets and coming into our mission,” he said. “On any day, we have anywhere from 900 to 1,500 people under our roof, and we're so much more than a shelter that when those people walk through, they get free dental care, mental health care, medical care, and legal care. They have caseworkers assigned to them who are working with them if they have addictions, if they've experienced domestic violence.”
