During an interview on Monday, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that President Joe Biden may be a “greater threat to democracy” than former President Donald Trump.
Kennedy’s claims came while talking with CNN, sharing that you could “make an argument” because of the Biden administration’s battle over social media censorship.
“President Biden is a much worse threat to democracy,” he said. “And the reasons for that is President Biden is the first candidate in history, the first president in history that has used the federal agencies to censor political speech.”
Currently, Kennedy is suing the Biden administration over its request that his social media accounts be restricted in 2021. The requests came as Kennedy posted information that claimed baseball legend Hank Aaron died from complications of the COVID vaccine, something medical experts have since said was not true.
Last month, Kennedy won an injunction on the case, but it was stayed to await a pair of Supreme Court cases ruling on the authority that the executive branch has when it comes to urging social media censorship. That case was brought forth by several GOP attorneys general.
Kennedy argued that Biden’s censorship is what makes him more of a threat to Democracy than Trump’s rhetoric and prior actions
“I can argue that President Biden is [the greatest threat] because the First Amendment, Erin, is the most important,” he said. “Adams and Hamilton and Madison said we put a guarantee of freedom of expression in the First Amendment because all of our other constitutional rights depend on it.”
Still, Kennedy shared he wasn’t a fan of the former president either, saying Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election were “appalling,” which also made him a threat to the nation.
