Fitness guru Richard Simmons revealed he was diagnosed with skin cancer.

In a Facebook post, the 75-year-old said he was diagnosed with Basal cell carcinoma. The diagnosis came after his dermatologist removed a bump from under Simmons’ right eye.

“He comes back about 20 minutes later and says the C word. You have cancer,” Simmons wrote.  “I asked him what kind of cancer and he said Basel Cell Carcinoma (sic). I told him to stop calling me dirty names.  He laughed.”

Simmons said he went to another doctor, who burned Simmons’ skin three times to remove the cancer cells.

“With a smile on his face, he said, ‘We got all the cancer cells out.’  I gave him a hug.  We are not done yet I have to stitch your face up. It took about 45 Minutes and I was done.  ‘I don’t want to see you back here again.’”

“I know some of you reading this have had cancer or have known someone in your life who has had cancer,” he wrote. “Promise me you will see your doctor and get a complete check up.”

It’s unclear exactly when Simmons was diagnosed.

Simmons disappeared from the public eye in 2014. In January, Simmons posted a message on Facebook in response to a short film in which he was portrayed by actor-comedian Pauly Shore.

“I have never given my permission for this movie.  So don’t believe everything you read,” he wrote.
