From January through September, the police received 8,161 shoplifting reports. That’s more than 900 fewer reports than during the same period in 2023, but still significantly higher than the numbers the city saw in 2022 and before the pandemic.

Department stores are getting hit the hardest by shoplifting, followed by clothing stores. Downtown L.A. had more reports than any other neighborhood, with about 500 calls coming from the FIGat7th mall.
