According to KTLA, Martir Garcia Lara and his father went to a hearing in Houston to receive an update on their immigration status. Instead, they were both detained and separated from each other.
Torrance Elementary School PTA President Jasmin King told KTLA that Martir, who’s gone to the school since first grade, is “alone and likely scared.”
Teachers and community members are trying to find a way to get the family released so they can come home to California. The school community is prepared to assist them financially and help them get legal assistance.
