Tub flooding to sewage leaks: Park La Brea residents fed up with ongoing maintenance issues

Residents of Park La Brea, the largest apartment community in Los Angeles, are upset over ongoing maintenance issues that they say aren’t being addressed.

KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke with some of the residents experiencing maintenance issues. One woman called it “sort of a bureaucracy situation.”

“The maintenance workers come out, and they do their job to the best of their ability, but we do have a large leak in our bathroom, like over our shower, and it, in my opinion…the whole ceiling needs to be redone, torn out,” she said. “They've been patching it and patching it. This is the third time it's been patched, and it just keeps leaking. So, it's frustrating for sure.”

One man said he’s had an ongoing issue with his tub being flooded.

“They've come and fixed it, but then the tub gets flooded again,” he said.
So that's been happening over and over again.”

Another woman said she’s been dealing with sewage leaking out in front of the apartment.

“There was like tissue and human feces to come out because I think one of the pipes isn't covered...I think that's where it's coming out,” she said.

She said her neighbor had a similar problem and wasn’t sure what the complex did for the neighbor, but the issue at her own place was never resolved.

“I just went to buy some mulch to like cover it up. I didn't really make a huge stink about it, but it is a problem that has happened not only to me, to my neighbor, but other people,” she said.

A spokesperson for Park La Brea sent the following statement to KNX News:

“We want every resident to feel at home at Park La Brea, and we take community feedback seriously. We are actively working with our third-party maintenance vendor and our entire maintenance team to ensure work orders are addressed efficiently. We are also expanding our maintenance team to increase our capacity to resolve work orders more quickly. Residents are encouraged to escalate any questions or concerns directly to our Experience Department and to report any maintenance requests directly via our 24-hour maintenance hotline or the online resident portal.”
