U.S.’s opener in 2026 World Cup to be against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium

The U.S. and Paraguay will face off in the first of their two games at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The announcement came on Friday. The schedule is as follows:

- USA and Paraguay will play June 12, 2026 at SoFi Stadium.
- USA and Australia will play June 19, 2026 at Lumen Field, Seattle
- USA and the winning team in Group C will play June 25, 2026 at SoFi Stadium.

L.A. is among 11 U.S. cities to host the World Cup, which kicks off June 11th in downtown L.A.

A celebration event for the draw was held at the US Bank Tower. Larry Freedman, LAFC Co-President and Los Angeles World Cup Host Committee Co-Chairman, told KNX News’ Karen Adams that L.A. is a soccer city.

“We have two men's professional teams. We have a women's professional team, all with substantial fan bases,” he said. “We have a very cosmopolitan population here with people from all over the world. First generation, fifth generation - whatever it is.”

L.A. Tourism Board President Adam Burke said the games will help boost the economy.

“This is going to generate over half a billion dollars in revenue for our local business community and create thousands of new jobs, and that's critically important, especially when we think about supporting the communities,” he said. “The Palisades, Altadena. This is the way that we can help accelerate their recovery.”
