On Sunday, UCLA’s women’s basketball team won its first NCAA championship, beating out the University of South Carolina 79 to 51.
KNX News’ Jon Baird went to the UCLA campus in Westwood, where some students were still celebrating the team’s big win.
“The game was amazing,” one student said. “I was so proud of the women's team. They were great.”
“I was on a trip, but we made sure to make time to go to a bar and watch the second half,” another student said.
Baird also spoke with David and Catherine Cates, who were visiting the area and got to watch the game with the students at Pauley Pavilion.
“It was really exciting, and it was fun to be around all the kids who were going crazy,” David said.
“It was really fabulous to see the women get the recognition they deserve,” Catherine said.
UCLA is inviting Bruin fans to a celebration for the new champs on Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion.
