West Hollywood Fire Station 8, used frequently in the 1970s TV show “Emergency!,” will soon have a new $20 million home.

Supervisor Lindsey Horvath helped secure $19.5 million from the Measure E property tax fund that's been raising money for projects just like this, and an additional $5,000 secured by Congresswoman Laura Friedman.

“A facility like this is a reward for generations to come,” Horvath told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener. “We know it's, you know, more than 70 years old already, and it operates 24 hours a day, making sure that people are cared for. So this kind of facility is exactly where you want to be investing to keep people safe and cared for.”

The station is currently three stories and can hold four fire engines. Fire Captain Aaron Kaetin said the station was built in 1952 and has not had any updates since.

“Right now, we have 13 people jammed in a station,” he said.

Station 8 averages 12 to 20 calls a day.
