LOS ANGELES (KNX) –A woman is dead and two people were hospitalized following a crash near Hancock Park Elementary School Tuesday morning.

It happened on 6275 W Colgate Avenue around 8 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The driver of a white pickup truck struck a 35-year-old woman and a 6-year-old child before colliding into a two-story apartment.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver, described as a 30-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in moderate condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation; however, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore said there were "early signs that the man was impaired," City News Service reported.

``That is a contributing factor to this horrific collision that resulted in the loss of this mother, and the critical injuries to this young child,'' he said.
