It’s not unheard of to go into the family business or follow in your parents’ footsteps professionally, but when your parents were both Oscar-nominated movie stars, it’s a little harder to live up to their legacy.
However, Jamie Lee Curtis did just that this year, not only snagging an Academy Award nomination for her role in “Everything Everywhere All At Once” but winning Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the indie darling.
Curtis, who is the daughter of Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, gave an emotional shout-out to her late parents in her acceptance speech Sunday, noting tearfully that they “were both nominated for Oscars in different categories. I just won an Oscar!”
This wasn’t the first time Curtis paid tribute to her famous parents this awards season, as she opted to sport her mother’s wedding ring to the Screen Actors Guild Awards in February.
“Honestly this morning I was grabbing my jewels to put on for tonight and I saw it in a little box and thought about my parents and I wouldn’t be here without them,” she told People.
She credited her parents with her career, saying that she would have never become an actor if it wasn’t for them and so she “just wanted to bring them here tonight.”
Curtis also shared that she was wearing the ring during her acceptance speech after winning the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role, teasing that “they hated each other, by the way, by the end of it.”
