Dodgers vs Padres
Naturally, Saturday’s game between the Dodgers and Padres is the game to watch in baseball on Saturday. While San Diego is hovering around .500, the Padres are the biggest challenger the Dodgers have in the NL West. They’ll look to Matt Waldron to put his sluggish start to the season behind him when he starts on Saturday night. In seven starts, Waldron is 1-4 with a 5.82 ERA, which is why San Diego is 1-6 in his starts. The caveat is that he allowed just one run on three hits over five innings when he faced the Dodgers last month, so he should have some confidence heading into this matchup.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers will send James Paxton to the mound. The aging lefty is 4-0 with a 3.06 ERA on the season. He also has some troubling numbers against several San Diego hitters, especially after giving up three runs on three hits and eight walks over five innings when he faced the Padres in April. With a 1.55 WHIP and just 18 strikeouts in 32.1 innings, Paxton is more vulnerable than his 3.06 ERA might suggest. Both he and Waldron could have trouble in this game, as the Dodgers might have more success in their second chance against Waldon. This figures to be a high-scoring game, making the over the best bet with San Diego also having good value to win, as the Padres are 6-4 against left-handed starters this year.
