Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has once again been recognized as the NFL's top head coach.

In a preseason poll conducted by The Associated Press, Reid earned the No. 1 spot for the fourth consecutive year, despite the Chiefs coming off their first losing season since he arrived in Kansas City. AP voters cited Reid's long track record of success, including three Super Bowl championships and his status as the all-time winningest coach in both Chiefs and Eagles franchise history.

A panel of eight AP NFL writers ranked the league's top coaches entering the 2026 season. Reid received five first-place votes to finish comfortably ahead of the competition.

The top five coaches in the AP rankings are:

  1. Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs
  2. Sean McVay, Los Angeles Rams
  3. Mike Macdonald, Seattle Seahawks
  4. Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers
  5. Sean Payton, Denver Broncos

Although Kansas City missed the playoffs with a 6-11 record last season, Reid's sustained excellence over more than two decades continues to make him the benchmark for NFL coaching heading into the 2026 campaign.
