Since taking over as Pittsburgh Steelers head coach in 2007, Mike Tomlin has never led the franchise to a losing season. He's the only coach in NFL history to begin his career with 15 straight campaigns with a record at or above .500. And during this period, Tomlin's guided Pittsburgh to 154 wins, seven division crowns, and a Super Bowl title. But, not everyone respects his credentials.
Pro Football Focus released its annual head coach rankings earlier this week, and Tomlin was surprisingly left outside the top-10 and placed in the league's second tier, at No. 13 overall. With a bruised and battered Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback last season, Tomlin and Steelers rallied late in the second half to clinch an AFC wild-card spot (9-7-1 record). PFF's list has sparked debate, and one of Tomlin's former defensive backs can't fathom the rankings.
"It's embarrassing. And it's disrespectful to Mike Tomlin, when you look at the consistency he's displayed throughout his career," CBS Sports HQ NFL analyst Bryant McFadden told The Zach Gelb Show on Wednesday. "And never having a losing season. That alone should warrant him being in the top-10, along with already winning a Super Bowl... That list is clearly not consistent. I don't think you should of heed into that list, knowing that Mike Tomlin isn't top-10."
