Perhaps the greatest cult hero in Washington Nationals — and Washington sports? — history, Howie Kendrick has decided to hang 'em up after a lengthy career.

The 15-year veteran announced his retirement on Instagram, mentioning all four of his former teams — the Angels, Phillies, Dodgers and Nationals — in a long, heartfelt caption.

Kendrick spent the first 11 years of his career on the West Coast, serving the Angels for nine years as their everyday second baseman and earning All-Star recognition for the first and only time of his career in 2011, recording a career-high 18 home runs. A brief stint with the Phillies started his East Coast career in 2017, though he was traded to the Nationals after only 39 games of action in which he batted .340.

It was in Washington, though, where he truly left his mark. It wasn't his regular season success — though there was plenty of it, seeing as he batted .316 with an .873 OPS in his Nationals career — but his postseason heroics that forever engraved him in the Washington history books.

Below is a compilation of some of his best moments with the 2019 postseason Nationals, courtesy of MLB Film Room.

Just a .238 career postseason hitter, Kendrick was the 2019 NLCS MVP and had a similarly remarkable World Series in what was the cherry on top to a terrific career.
