David Price is still going at Dennis Eckersley.
In a recent Boston Globe feature story, Eckersley commented on Price’s two-year-old airplane ambush, which happened after the Hall of Fame hurler had used the word “yuck” to describe one of Eduardo Rodriguez’s subpar minor league rehab starts. “I didn’t know how to deal with that,” Eckersley told Chad Finn. “I don’t plan on saying a word to him, I don’t plan on seeing him, never. I don’t really give a (expletive) one way or another. I don’t think he really cares one way or the other.”
The headline caught Price’s eye, leading him to launch a couple of social media missives in Eckersley’s direction –– and lots of laughing-face emojis.
“ECK needs attention!!,” Price wrote to one tweeter. “Same as every broadcast...hahah 8 pitches are thrown and he’s sitting there talking about something he did 30 years ago (with zero mention of what’s going on).”
Price also says he organized a meeting with Eckersley in the immediate aftermath of his verbal ambush, but the NESN broadcaster “backed out.” Marcus Stroman, who took issue last month with Eckersley calling his mound celebrations "tired," also chimed in.
Suffice to say, this is a terrible look for Price, who’s been the Red Sox’ lone stalwart in the rotation this season. Eckersley wasn’t saying anything new about the incident nor did he speak ill of Price. In fact, Eckersley gave Price too much credit, saying he doesn’t think the lefty “cares one way or the other.”
Apparently, Price does.
