Eagles’ Home Comfort: How Two Months of No Air Travel Could Tip the Scales

Exploring the surprising travel advantage that may give the Eagles an edge over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX

When searching for information in order to make the most informed wagers possible, you come across a lot of things, and many things that you wouldn’t expect to find. The Super Bowl is taking place this Sunday between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, and it is going to be one of the most wagered on events of the year. While researching travel distances for each of the teams, I came across a pretty hilarious tidbit of information that actually could have some impact on the game.

According to ML Football on X, the Philadelphia Eagles have not traveled on a plane in over two months!

CBS also came out with this story as well, but I really didn’t believe it when I saw it. Indeed, they came home from Los Angeles on November 25, and have not had to get on a plane since that date. Seven home games since then and two in Maryland, which they simply took a team bus to. I have been doing this kind of research for the last four years, and there hasn’t been a team that has even come close to this kind of traveling advantage over the last two months of a season.

A lot of people will wonder why this even matters, and to their credit, it might not. However, we have seen plenty of times in the past where a team that travels a lot does have a disadvantage in a game, where the team that has had less miles on their odometer is fresh. There has to be something to be said about the privilege of sleeping in your own bed and being able to stick to a routine for weeks at a time instead of having to fly out to a different destination every other week.

In my opinion, that can be a serious advantage, but could have a drawback as well. They have been so used to playing at home, with five straight home games now, that it could throw them off balance that they actually have had to get on a plane and travel. I looked up the last time the Eagles played in five straight home games, and it is safe to say it has been a while. It was 1933, when they faced teams like the Bears, Packers, Pirates and Reds. And no, not the baseball teams.

It will certainly be interesting to see if playing at home as much as they have will aid them in terms of rest and routine, or if it will throw them off their game now that they have had to travel for a game after so many weeks. The Chiefs are currently a -1.5 favorite in the game and that line hasn’t moved much at all since the open over a week ago. It is likely going to close at that number as well.
