Madison Square Garden served as the host to NBA history on Tuesday night, as Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry knocked down his 2,974th career three-pointer in a 105-96 road win over the New York Knicks, breaking Hall of Fame sharpshooter Ray Allen's all-time mark.
When the record-setting shot swished through the net with 7:33 remaining in the opening quarter, pandemonium ensued. And as a celebratory gesture, the Warriors quickly fouled and called timeout, allowing Curry -- the league's new three-point king -- to enjoy the moment with teammates and family courtside.
"There's never been anybody like Steph Curry. He's what I call an anomaly," Hall of Fame forward and Warriors legend Rick Barry told the Tiki and Tierney show on Wednesday. "There's never been a player like Steph Curry playing the game. I hear these guys on TV, 'He's a lock-down defender,' and I just laugh. There's no such thing as a lock-down defender against a scorer.

"You can lock down a shooter, you can't lock down a scorer. Steph is both. He's an incredible shooter, and also a great scorer. He can go to the basket, shoot the mid-range, shoot from crazy distances, and he's a great free-throw shooter. How in the world can you defend that? You can't."
Curry, who scored a team-high 22 points against the Knicks, is performing at an MVP-caliber level this season. Through 27 games, the 33-year-old legend leads the Warriors in average points (26.9), and his mark also ranks inside the NBA's top-five. Curry has never shot below 40-percent from behind the arc in a full season, and if he maintains his health and scoring pace, the three-time champion could easily reach 4,000 threes before his current contract expires.
Golden State, which owns the league's best record (23-5), returns to action on Friday in a road matchup against the Boston Celtics (14-14). According to FiveThirtyEight, the Warriors are currently projected to win 55 regular season games, and their 9-percent chance to reach next summer's NBA Finals ranks fifth-best in the Western Conference.
