The Shocker Men's Basketball team got off to a very hot start Wednesday night at Charles Koch and never trailed in an 80-68 win over Richmond. All five Shocker starters finished in double figures as Wichita State improves to 7-1, and 5-0 at home.
Colby Rogers led WSU, scoring a game-high 19 points on 7-of-19 shooting and three 3-pointers. Rogers also added a career-high seven rebounds to go with three assists and three steals on a night when he became a member of the 1,000 career point club.
Xavier Bell was 6-for-9 from the field, finishing with 17 points and five rebounds. Harlond Beverly delivered another all-around performance with 13 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Over his last two games he has 15 assists to just one turnover. Wichita State had just six turnovers as a team, a season low.
Wichita State shot 56.3 percent (18-for-32) from the field in the second half and went 6-for-13 for three after missing seven of eight attempts in the first half. The Shockers controlled the glass, outrebounding the Spiders by 11, limiting Richmond to just six offensive rebounds.
Richmond was able to close the gap, only trailing by 2 at halftime 33-31. But that's as close as it would get, Wichita State led by as many as 18 in the second half and finishing with a double-digit win.
